Chris Weed

Chris is afflicted with an acute interest in both the sheer diversity of fine wine varietals as well as in their methods of viticulture and vinification. While he is known to exhibit an occasionally alarming zeal for German Scheurebe, schisty Savennières, old-vine Assyrtiko, and Swiss Chasselas, he finds himself returning inexorably to the classics: the great wines of the Côte d'Or, Côte-Rôtie, Mosel, Barolo, Champagne, and, yes, Beaujolais. He esteems producers who insist fanatically on demonstrating the individuality of a particular piece of land through the medium of one uniquely flattering varietal. In the wonderful world of beer, he tends toward Belgian classicism, with an especial interest in saisons, lambics and gueuzes, American wild ales, bières de garde, and the like, yet he also incongruously harbors a perhaps unhealthy interest in modern imperial stouts. For he is, above all, an ecumenical tippler.
